Description
The early morning light makes this winter scene on Merchants Millpond look almost submarine, pierced by shafts of golden light.
Merchants Millpond in winter remains a magical place. The green canopy is gone and the understory thinned but the bedrock remains, the essential form of the ecosystem revealed in stark contrast.
I think that’s what I like most about this photograph – not its aesthetic or technical merit but its simplicity, bright sunlight washing the winter trees and polishing the still surface of the pond. It evokes a mood of stillness and anticipation and patience.
